She is out.

Dr. Mendelow just came in and said all went well. Laura was steady through out the surgery and there were no complications. We still won't see her for about an hour. She is in recovery. Thanks for all the prayers and notes of encouragement. Laura will love hearing them all tomorrow or Wednesday.

We thank all of you and God for the wonderful blessings of this week.
Melissa

  3. Hooray!! So glad it's all over and that it went smoothly. Weren't you told to expect something like 8 hours? Seems like a good sign that she was out so quickly. -- Betsy Sutherland

  9. Hi Lala, it's 3:30 in the morning and I just left your room to go take a nap in our "family room" here at the hospital. I know you won't remember much from this night and that's fine. It wasn't a lot of fun but it was amazing to me to see you continue to be the wonderful, sweet, and brave Laura we all know no matter how difficult or painful things were. You never complained once. You just simply asked "may I sit up,' "can I have anything to drink," or "is it time for me to get to roll onto my side yet?" even when you had tears in your eyes. You told us your back hurt really bad but when the nurse asked how bad is it on the 1-10 scale you said "maybe a 4 or 5." She knew it was much worse than that but you just didn't want her to think you were whining. You've done great throughout this entire ordeal and today you proved you are just as tough as big sister Emily, and that's saying a lot.
I'm proud of you Lala. I'll be back to see you in a few hours. In the mean time, you and Mommy keep up the good work.
    I love you Sweet Girl,
    Daddy

  12. Dear Laura,
Zoe, Maya and I have been reading your blog. I knew this would work out well and today you'll be moving a lot more. They don't want you to stagnate in one position so they'll probably get you up and about. Now you're an official member of the Titanium Club. There are a lot of people in this club and you are definitely not the youngest but you are the best!! The girls send their love to you and your family. Zoe knows all will be well and is announcing it to the neighborhood dogs as we speak. That also means that Maya is helping, although her bark is louder, she only follows Zoe's lead. God has blessed you Laura and you are still in our prayers.
    Love,
    Debra

  13. Hi Laura,
I have been sending prayers to God to watch over you and take care of you. You know he hears all prayers! :) I know it was a long surgery. I am sure you are sore today. I hope you feel better soon!! Try to think of your favorite things when you are hurting or feel bad. Hopefully it will help.
I wish this day to go by fast for you!
    Lots of Love and prayers,
    Susan Finnerty

  14. To Laura and all the Kirks and Brittons:

I am so glad that surgery is over and knew that you would be a great patient Laura. I bet the staff at the hospital are bragging about you and wishing every patient had so much courage. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks so much for the updates!

  15. Hi Laura. I'm so glad the surgery is over and you are doing well. I can't wait to see you. You are probably taller than me now :-) I'm so sorry that you are having a lot of pain. Just remember that it will pass, and life will be back to normal soon, just a little straighter and taller.
