I have really enjoyed all the visitors and gifts I have received this weekend especially the HUGE banner my classmates made for me. I keep falling asleep and missing the goodbyes. My mom is taping up the cards and notes where I can see them and it is nice to look at them over and over.
I REALLY regret not putting my hair in braids before the surgery. It is a huge tangled mess. So tangled it looks very short. We work on it a little at a time but since my neck isn't very strong yet it isn't getting much better. I can take a shower but I can't let the shower hit my back so conditioner doesn't help much either. Someone said I could cut it but I am NOT ready to do that.
Emily came home this weekend and that was really nice. We watched movies together.
My parents keep reading the comments to me and that is fun to hear too. It is nice to hear what is going on with other people.
So many people are praying for me in so many different states. That must be why I am getting better fast. The pain is much much better and I am feeling much better then I did at the hospital. I have to move very carefully and there are some things I can't do for a while but this is much easier.
I sit up a bunch but I still spend most of my time like this:

We are so glad the surgery went great - we reported on you at church yesterday and everyone wanted to know if you were taller! We didn't know what to tell them...are you taller now? thanks for all the updates - we love you!

Laura,
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see you yesterday. I don't know who was snoring louder you or Obi (it was Obi). Your smile brightened my day. Keep working hard and walking to the kitchen for popsicles. Let me know when you are ready for me to do your sparkle toes.
Love you!
Tracy
I know how wonderful it is to be home and working with hair after surgery. You should have seen Amanda's! That's why I got mine cut the morning before my surgery. I didn't want any trouble. It's a good thing that hair does grow out and it doesn't take long. Hang in there. I am so glad you're doing so well.

Hi Laura! Glad to have the update. I understand about the tangled mess of hair!! Wish they would tell you about that BEFORE surgery!! When Issy's hair was a mess like that one nurse actually came in with some scissors and tried to take charge. We also said "NO!" I don't know if this would help right now but what I did that really helped was put conditioner in Issy's dry hair. I worked the tangles out pretty easily that way. Even if you can't clean it too well just yet, maybe a braid would keep your hair looking good until you can rinse it out well. Your hair would be shiny and REALLY soft after that! Issy and I will visit you this week! I will arrange a time with your mom.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura--I am one whose comments are somewhere deep in cyberspace. This one is a test and if it publishes, I will write my "real" comment at once. Clair
ReplyDeleteYay--it published! I noticed that when I comment thru my email it does not go thru, so I went to your home page. Maybe that is the difference.
ReplyDeleteI tracked your package thru the post office, and it was delivered to the hospital at 1pm on Feb. 1. They accepted it, and then on Feb. 2, they "refused" it--I guess sent it back to me. Anyway, I have not tracked it today, but realized that I should have just put your address as the return address! We are so glad that your are recovering well. Adam and Austin send their love to you. We have all looked at the amazing change in the x-rays and are amazed but not surprised that you kept that beautiful smile during the ordeal. We love you and will talk soon.

Clair! We are so sorry! Thanks for persevering.I keep telling Laura the travels of her gift and we appreciate all your efforts.

When she was little, my daughter had trouble, BIG trouble with her hair getting tangled. There were some knots that just wouldn't come out. So, with a little prudent snipping vertically, I was able to prune them out. Sure, the hair had some layers, but they really didn't show much. And the conditioner idea is the first step.
ReplyDeleteSo, when you are giving people advice about big surgeries (now you are an expert!), you'll be telling them to braid their hair, I bet!
I have a little gift for you. I'll call your mom and see if I can bring it by on Wednesday.
Love,
Miz Liz
Hi sweet Laura,
ReplyDeleteI miss you SO much!!! It sounds like you are doing very well!! I was glad to see Charlie back at school this week. I will be glad when you return too!!
Just take it easy and I'll bet that you will feel better each day.
Thank you for keeping us posted.
Sending hugs and prayers,
Jeanie
Aw, I'm so sorry I didn't mention anything about braiding your hair! I automatically assumed that the nurses would tell you to-- at least, mine did. :( Working out the tangles is the last thing your body will want to feel right now, too. I'm glad to hear that you're making improvements! It will only get better from here, as long as you do what the doctor says! Get plenty of rest and walk lots! Feel better soon!
